Do you know that today is World Nature Conservation Day?

Conservation is similar to preservation, but while both relate to the protection of nature, they strive to accomplish different outcomes. Conservation seeks the sustainable use of nature by humans for mining, hunting, or logging, while preservation means protecting nature from human use.

Today we acknowledge that a healthy environment is a foundation for a stable and healthy society.

This is how I felt as I stood at this eighth wonder of the world by American Falls in @niagarafallsusa and  I kid you not, there was a moment where all I did was soak in the sight and sounds of the majestic falls and eventually teared up.

I don't know if it was the natural beauty with so much power right in front of me. Or the knowledge that when humans discovered this place. They almost made it ugly with industrialization before more humans advocated for it to be something that can be used but still conserved.

Niagara Falls are more than 12,000 years old. Today, power plants on both the American and Canadian sides of the Falls can produce up to 2.4 million kilowatts of electricity.

Both sides of the border work in unison to achieve this.

And, if you swipe to the left, you will see how my Baba (father) caught a moment of happiness between not just my family but another family by the same spot I "lost" myself.

Coincidence much? In honor of World Conservation Day, let's promise ourselves that together we can all be one and not just be there for each other, but also take care of this earth that has given and continues to give us more than we can imagine.

What lifestyle changes are you making to make this a more sustainable 🌎 to live in?

Are you ready for tomorrow?  If not, then this e Are you ready for tomorrow?

If not, then this easy-no cooking required Kulfi is here to save your dessert concerns.

If you follow my stories, then you know that I have been traveling for the past three weeks, which means that I haven't had enough time to prepare for Eid ul Adha.

We picked our clothes out before Ramadan, and we are blessed to live in a multicultural city that provides a lot of food options.

Having said that, I have fond memories of eating homemade food during Eids, and I want to continue some element of that for my own family now.

So, for tomorrow this Pakistani style Kulfi might cover our dessert cravings. The recipe is available on the blog at https://www.theunmodernwoman.com/extremely-easy-no-cook-authentic-pakistani-kulfi-recipe/#recipe

Or you can Google "No cook Pakistani Kulfi," and the recipe will pop up.

On this day of Arafat, I pray that He forgives our intentional and unintentional wrongdoings and makes us all a means to contribute towards a more peaceful world.

Ameen!

" Sh*t ain't real till it's real."  Any guesses " Sh*t ain't real till it's real."

Any guesses on what this means?

Or, more importantly, what does it mean to you? To me this phrase that has a curse word in it signifies an important life lesson.

No matter what decade of your life you are on, whatever chapter you are currently writing. At times, it feels like the toughest one. And, sometimes it isn't till you go through hardship, you realize that others around you go through hardships too, and it's all part of our imperfect perfect lives.

This one is primarily for the ones that don't talk about it. Our hardships can be an entirely different experience altogether. But, in the end, the pain is felt the same way. The uncertainty is felt the same way.

The strength we discover after that and the confidence it brings within us almost always feels the same way.

At the same time, this phrase is also a realization that things aren't tough till they get tough. So whatever it is, we always have to keep our heads up high, believe that there is a blessing even in the hardship that we can not foresee in the moment, and more than anything, remind ourselves that it is only a chapter from the entire book of our life.

Happy Monday, everyone!

💞 Meri Ami (My mom) 💞 I was once told that 💞 Meri Ami (My mom) 💞

I was once told that "Agar abhi tumhay apni maa say mohabbat hai, to shadi kay baad ishq ho jaega." (If love is what you feel for your mother right now, after marriage, you will feel this irresistible desire to always have her around you.)

This couldn't be farther from the truth. Swipe ➡ to see my baby picture with her, and her pictures with my babies.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, the ones that want to be mothers someday, and this inside-out beautiful woman. She didn't just fight storms after storms to raise us but was and remains the "coolest" Aunty among our friends and family due to her down-to-earth and loving nature.

I can only pray to be half the woman you are, Ami Jaan (mother dearest).

We are also praying for those who have lost their mothers. May Allah (God) reunite in Jannah (heaven).

To Decorate for Eid or Not? Throwback to two year To Decorate for Eid or Not?

Throwback to two years ago when we celebrated Eid with our loved ones in the house

Last year we didn't have anyone over, and for some reason, as we were still getting used to the pandemic life, I didn't have the opportunity to decorate the house as we do. Or truth to be told. Having lost my Nana right before Eid, I didn't have the heart to decorate or do much. Everything was overwhelming, and with everyone home 24/7 at one point, I was barely surviving.

Fast forward to this year. A lot of us have lost more people since then. But, in between everything that transpired last year. We all have managed to find strength in different ways.

We have found love in different ways.

We have found the importance of family and friends in different ways.

We have learned to be there for each other in different ways.

This year as things are starting to look brighter, a lot of us are back to decorating. Thanks to @boxedwithbarakah 's Eid Barakah Box, all you have to do is go online, and almost everything you need can be shipped to your doorstep. Swipe to see the awesomeness that comes in this Eid decor box. A detailed review is on the blog www.theunmodernwoman.com . The link is in the bio @theunmodernwoman . You can use code TUMW20 to receive 20% off your order.

Houston folks can also pick up their order locally at a Katy location. For more information, message Boxed With Barakah.

And, now for the best part. Do you decorate?

Why or why not?

✨ 💜 Create your own magic 💜 ✨  Can we ✨ 💜 Create your own magic 💜 ✨

Can we get a show of hands from my ladies here whose Eids are incomplete without adorning their hands with henna/mehndi?

Most of us need an excuse to put Henna on throughout the year, and I am guilty as charged.

One of the best tips I can give you to ensure you have a relaxing henna experience instead of a rushed one is to get your henna done at least two nights in advance and use gloves when needed for dishwashing or any other wet activity.  This ensures a perfect dark brown stain since all-natural, dye, and ppd free henna takes precisely 48 hours to show its actual color. And, you won't accidentally miss out on getting henna done because other things took priority.

Now, what if I told you that despite Covid, you and/or your daughter/daughters could get Henna done while sitting in the comfort of your home?

That's right. Through this @hennazart DIY Deluxe Henna Kit, you can plan a perfect mommy and daughter or girlfriends pre-Chaand Raat evening to create your henna paste, fill premade empty cones, and use stencils to apply henna as well. Hennaz Art is very dear to my heart. Look out for my stories as I share the story behind the items in this video.

If you are pregnant or allergic to Eucalyptus, then go for the kit with Lavender essential oil as I did.

Are you too busy to DIY, or is it just not your thing? Then go for what I do every year. Order your henna cones, lemon setting spray, and my favorite Henna after-care balm from @hennazartshop , and enjoy a luxurious Henna experience wherever you are. 😉

To save some moolah, use coupon code unmodernwoman15off To receive 15% off any item on their website www.hennazartshop.com

Jummah Mubarak (Happy Friday) 💜

Less perfection, more authenticity.  Did you gro Less perfection, more authenticity.

Did you grow up under the impression that the best form of Ibadah (worship) for a woman during Ramadan is preparing Iftar meals and how rewarding it is & “should be” because it's an honorable thing to do?

Whether it was the Middle East, South Asia, or here in the West, I saw men and even young boys go for Taraweeh (nightly prayers during Ramadan). The women either went back to the kitchen to clean up after Iftar or prepare for Sehri/Suhoor (pre-dawn meal). Or get busy watching the younger kids.

While there is no denying that every act of kindness and goodwill, even done for our children and family members regardless of gender, is rewarding. Can we please normalize the idea that women, just like men, also find other forms of worship rewarding and can often struggle with their spirituality, especially during Ramadan because, let's face it, changing a diaper, or deep frying or even air frying a Samosa over & over again is not the same as reciting Quran, praying Taraweeh or even doing Dhikr (remembrance) for that matter?

To my brothers, if you aren’t already, then either opt for simpler meals or take the lead in Iftar prep. To the women, let's promise to remind our other halves that our Ibadah is as essential to us as everything else in the picture. It paves the way for our children to learn the same from the get-go.

For those of you wondering, this fabulous “Iftar Loading” apron I am wearing from @Boxedwithbarakah has large pockets for our smartphones and comes with an adjustable neck strap. Bonus: It is also gender-neutral 😉 While the apron is currently already on sale, you can use my discount code TUMW20 and receive 20% off just in time for your Eid orders at their website. Look out for my stories as I share how I use my favorite ergonomic Tasbeeh counter from their store.

When was the last time you went easy on yourself? When was the last time you went easy on yourself?

Like real easy. Where you had no expectations from yourself.

Don't get me wrong. It's good to have goals in life. The lifelong goals. The "Aakhira" (hereafter) goals. Education, career, business, and fitness goals. Not to forget the daily goals we all have that no one except our mind and maybe that sticky note, planner, or a phone app are aware of.

Will you believe me if I say that there are things society and our loved ones expect of us, and there are things we "think" the community and our loved ones expect of us.

This weekend, tune into yourself and the people around you. Observe how everything functions if you step back a little. A lot of it will continue to happen. Let it happen. It might not be perfect, but it will happen.

Then remind yourself that it is okay to be easy on yourself. If anything, others around you will respect & appreciate you more for it.

Let's also go a step further and remember to remind women around us that it is okay to take it easy.

On this note, I also want to welcome those of you who recently started following me here. It brings me immense happiness that our community is growing. So, hey there. ❤

Jummah Mubarak, everyone! (Happy Friday)

Can we have a show of hand if you love creating ho Can we have a show of hand if you love creating homemade food for Iftar? ✋

Now, can we have a double show of hands if you may or may not enjoy cooking but also believe it is entirely okay to outsource food?🙌

While most of the items in this board are made at home, I am blessed enough to live in Houston, a multi-cultural city where the food scene, in general, is hot, but the Halal food scene is even hotter.

The point being as you go through this year's Ramadan. Take it easy on yourself. If there are restaurants, bakeries, and cafes around you that sell quality food, then go for it. Use the "extra" time for "Ibadah" (prayers).

It won't just make your life easier as you navigate through work, home, and kids or not while fasting the entire month. You will also support local businesses in the second year of a pandemic. ❤

As for the items on the board:

Strawberry Shikanjabeen - Recipe on the blog soon

Cholay Chaat - Recipe on the blog soon

Pani Puri - @bismillahrestaurantandcafe

Samosas & Chicken Choc Bars - @simplysplendidfoods

Chicken Salad Sandwiches - @houstonhotbreads

Vermicelli Bites - Recipe on the blog soon

Almond Stuffed Chocolate Covered Dates - Recipe on the blog soon

I can't wait to see your #Iftarcuterie boards. Tag me if you share them here. 💙

Have a safe and blessed weekend, everyone.
